Products
Is your cinnamon true Ceylon cinnamon?
Yes. Everything we sell as cinnamon is Cinnamomum verum, grown and peeled in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. We do not sell cassia, and we do not blend the two.
Why does your cinnamon cost more than supermarket cinnamon?
Because it is a different spice, made a slower way. Most supermarket cinnamon is cassia, a thicker bark from a different tree. Ceylon cinnamon is the thin inner bark of Cinnamomum verum, peeled and rolled by hand, then graded by quill diameter. The finer the grade, the less of it each harvest yields, which is why Alba costs more than H2. We buy, process and pack in Galle and ship direct, so no importer or distributor margin is added on the way to you.
Does Ceylon cinnamon contain coumarin?
Only low levels, often just traces. Coumarin is a natural flavouring compound found at much higher levels in cassia, around 3 g per kg on average according to Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). In especially sensitive people, too much coumarin can cause liver damage, which is usually reversible. The BfR sets a tolerable daily intake of 0.1 mg per kg of body weight, advises eating cassia in moderation and recommends Ceylon cinnamon for people who use cinnamon often. Every cinnamon product we sell is Cinnamomum verum.
They are diameter grades, not quality scores. Alba rolls up to 6 mm and is the sweetest and most delicate. C5 runs up to 13 mm and is the best everyday grade. C4 runs up to 16 mm and is fuller bodied. H1 runs up to 19 mm and is the most robust, suited to long cooking. H2 is the workhorse grade, widest and strongest in flavour.
Which grade should I buy if I only want one?
C5. It has enough perfume for baking and tea and enough body for curries and braises, so it covers almost everything a home kitchen does.
How should I store the spices at home?
In an airtight jar, in a dark cupboard, away from the cooker and any source of steam. Whole quills and whole pepper hold their character for a year or more. Ground spice is at its best within two to three months of opening.
Is your ground cinnamon made from the same quills?
Yes. We mill from the same graded quills we sell whole, with no additives, no anti caking agents and no fillers.
Are the spices irradiated or treated?
No. Our cinnamon is naturally sun dried with no additives, and nothing in the range is irradiated or chemically treated.
Orders and shipping
Where do you ship from and how quickly?
Every order is packed and dispatched from Sri Lanka within 2 business days of payment clearing.
How long will delivery take?
Indicative times from dispatch are 1 to 3 business days within Sri Lanka, 4 to 8 days to South Asia and the Middle East, 5 to 10 days to Europe and the United Kingdom, and 6 to 12 days to North America, Australia and New Zealand.
Do you offer free shipping?
Worldwide shipping is free on orders over $75. Below that, shipping is calculated by weight and destination and shown before you pay.
Will I pay customs duty or import tax?
Possibly, depending on your country. Duties, VAT, GST and clearance charges in the destination country are the customer's responsibility and are collected by the courier or customs before delivery. They are not included in our prices.
How do I track my order?
A tracking number is emailed when the courier collects the parcel. It can take up to 24 hours to become active on the courier's system. If nothing has moved after five working days, email us with your order reference.
Can I change or cancel an order after placing it?
Email info@singhafoods.com as soon as possible. If the parcel has not yet been handed to the courier we can amend or cancel it. Once it has shipped, the returns policy applies instead.
Wholesale
Do you supply wholesale and export volumes?
Yes. Wholesale and export is our original business. We supply importers, distributors, retailers, roasters and food manufacturers, and we ship to Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimums vary by product and packing format and are listed on the wholesale page. Submit a request for quotation with the grades and volumes you need and we will confirm against current availability.
Can I request samples before committing?
Yes. Use the sample request form on the wholesale page. Tell us the grades you want to assess and the market you are selling into, and we will advise what to compare.
Which Incoterms and packing formats do you work with?
We quote FOB, CIF and CFR, and we pack in bulk cartons, vacuum packs, retail ready units and private label formats. If you are not sure which suits you, say so on the enquiry and we will advise.
Can you produce under our own label?
Yes, private label packing is available. Artwork, unit sizes and label compliance for your destination market are agreed before production.
How quickly do you respond to a quotation request?
Within one business day for an acknowledgement, and with a full quotation once we have confirmed grade availability and current freight.
Returns
My order arrived damaged. What should I do?
Email info@singhafoods.com within 7 days of delivery with your order reference and photographs of the outer carton and the affected items. We will replace or refund the damaged items.
Can I return spices I simply did not like?
Unopened items in their original sealed packaging can be returned within 14 days of delivery. Because these are food products, opened pouches cannot be accepted back for food safety reasons.
Who pays return shipping?
We cover it where the fault is ours, meaning a damaged, incorrect or missing item. Where a return is a change of mind, return shipping is the customer's responsibility and original shipping is not refunded.
What if an item is missing from my parcel?
Tell us within 7 days of delivery. We check every order against a packing list before it is sealed, and we will send the missing item at our cost once confirmed.
How long do refunds take?
Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days of us receiving the return or agreeing the claim. Your bank may take a few days more to show it.
My parcel never arrived. Am I covered?
Yes. If tracking shows no delivery and a trace with the courier confirms the loss, we replace the order or refund it in full.
